Here’s what you should know before we get into the details. Most lingerie brands have their own sizing system. But that is no reason to panic, because there is always a chart that is indicative of what those sizes actually mean so people all around the world are able to get the perfect fit. Now back to knowing how to measure your bra size correctly.
Tools for measuring your bra size: All you need is a notebook and pen and a measuring tape along with your best fitting bra.
Steps to measure your bra size
Step 1: Full Bust Measurement – Put on a bra that you own that fits you best. i.e. your current favourite bra. Then wrap a measuring tape around your chest. Both ends of the measuring tape should meet in between your breasts. Tug at the tape and jot down your measurements. The bust is just another word for chest.
Step 2: Band Measurement – This is to get the correct measurement of the bra’s band meaning the piece of material that is the base that goes around you to the back where it meets and is clasped for support and security. So you want to wrap the measuring tape right underneath your breasts, tighten it securely to get the accurate measurement. Make sure the tape is going around in a steady, even line. It should feel snug, but not too tight. Measure in inches: if it’s an even number, that is your band size. If it’s an odd number, round it up to the nearest inch. The number is your band size.
Step 3: Bra Size – Now you need to work out your cup size. With the above two measurements noted, it’s time to calculate the correct/nearest cup size category that you fall into. All you need to do is find out the difference between your bust measurement and band measurement using basic subtractions. Every inch of difference is equivalent to a cup size. For instance, one-inch difference means you are an A cup, a two-inch difference is a B cup and so on and so forth it goes. The difference denotes your cup size. 0 = AA; 1 = A; 2 = B; 3 = C; 4 = D; 5 = DD; 6 = F; 7 = FF; 8 = G.
Using the three steps mentioned above should get you to the closest cup size that is suitable for your breasts. Combine your band size and the cup size, so you have a number followed by a letter, for example: 32C. This is your benchmark measurement — but remember, there’s a whole lot of nuance involved in finding the perfect fit, like considering your style and fabric preferences.
